Chaos is known as the being that never became a star. It is everywhere and yet nowhere at the same time.
Neither good nor evil, the ultimate expression of nothingness. The antithesis of the cosmos, creation itself.
Although Chaos claims to be the very state of existence from which the first entities appeared, it cannot form into the entity it wants most.
So it has been cursed to stay in the form of a dark and shapeless void. Floating between existence and nonexistence.
Longingly watching as stars are constantly born and lives are lived. The seeds of malice had been planted, flourished and transformed Chaos into the purest form of evil.

[attr="class","nikki109"]Truth be told he'd already been on his way out the door when talking with Julius. The stranger that had somehow managed to make contact with Merlin. A matter that the wizard was remaining oddly quiet about it. In fact every since that day at the gym Merlin had been strangely absent from Jayce's life. It was both odd and welcoming at the same time. Right now though Jayce wouldn't have minded the wizard's input. Even if he was livid with the guy. After all his friends were stuck out in the middle of this blizzard. Their lives were hanging in the balance not just from the cold but from other things as well. Merlin and this Julius fellow had called them youma. And if Julius was to be believed they were the cause of this storm?[break][break]
The whole thing made his head hurt, but that didn't stop him from braving the storm. Even after Julius(and his parents) had warned him against it. His friends were in trouble and Jayce would be damned if he'd sit by and do nothing. It was one of his biggest weakness and greatest strengths. His empathy for others. It had often forced him to act against his better judgement.[break][break]
He had arrived in Dreamland at least ten minutes before Julius had. The teenager's body was bundled up tightly. His scarf pulled down below his neck, his gloved hands cupped together as he shouted and walked. "Ralph! Samantha!" even at the top of his lungs his voice barely carried. The intense winds and snow muffled the echo of his voice. He shouted once more, and made sure to hone his ears for the sound of a reply. He tried to keep his eyes peeled as well. A task that proved difficult given the strength of the snowstorm. Jayce could feel the pit of his stomach tighten as the feeling of losing hope was starting to settle in. Maybe it was too late? No, he couldn't afford to be thinking such grim thoughts. They were out here...he just needed to find them.[break][break]
It was then that Jayce heard someone from behind him call out his name. He quickly jolted himself around. His heartbeat racing at the chance of it perhaps being Ralph or Samantha. It quickly slowed once the source of the voice stepped into his line of sight. Jayce had no idea who this person was. Everything about the older man that stood before him speaking his name was unfamiliar. Jayce connected the dots rather quickly however. This stranger must have been Julius. "That must be you Julius." he replied stepping closer to the man. Jayce didn't take much time to analyze the male, they were on a time crunch after all.[break][break]
Jayce instead jumped straight to the point, "Look I know you're going to be mad but we don't have time for a lecture." he motioned towards the further reaches of Dreamland. "Ralph and Samantha aren't at this part of park. I'm thinking that they may by further in." he wanted to keep the search going but he didn't move just yet. He instead waited for Julius to take the lead. He'd continue talking with the older male while they looked. Outside of looking for Ralph and Samantha Jayce had fair amount of questions he'd like to ask Julius. Especially now that the two of were face to face.

[attr="class","nikki109"]Jayce halted his attacks when it became clear that Kerria was getting frustrated. He watched, head tilted to the side as she took her helmet off and flung it towards the ground. What the heck was going on? He had thought things were going that badly for her and she hadn't seemed like a person to get so easily flustered. What got his attention more was her choice of words. Royal ass? She clearly wasn't talking to him but then who was she taking to? So many questions rolling around inside of his mind. None of them he really felt like asking aloud. He instead settled with, "Hey are you okay?" he really was concerned. She gave an 'I'll be fine' in response and Jayce didn't quite believe her.[break][break]
He removed his helmet and dropped his rapier to the floor. Approaching her cautiously and with concern. He outstretched his hand and placed it on the back of her shoulder. "Are you sure? That wa-" he paused, his grip on her shoulder tightening as it hit him like a wave. Merlin's influenced washed over him like it never had before. He felt the wizard pulling at his mind so intensely. "That was..." he repeated himself, as he tried to fight back against Merlin. He couldn't. For whatever reason today the wizard was more powerful than him. Jayce felt his soul being pulled back into the darkness of his mind.[break][break]
He was still seeing out of his own eyes but he couldn't command his body like he had before. Attempts to make his arms move were met with nothing. He could see and hear but he lacked the feeling of presence. As if he was weightless and floating in a sea of the unknown. What exactly had just happened? Surely Merlin hadn't....? "I'm sorry Jayce but you'll soon understand why." the wizard's voice echoed in the black expanse around him. It was exactly as Jayce had feared. Merlin had assumed control.[break][break]
The wizard straightened himself out and removed his hand from Kerria's shoulder. The sudden change in his posture one of the many signs that Kerria was no longer dealing with Jayce. None of them more obvious than the words that soon left Merlin's lips. "Forgive me Kerria but I'm afraid Jayce has stepped aside for the time being." he smiled at her warmingly. His arms behind his back, hands interlocked with another as he stared at the female. "Ah allow me to introduce myself correctly," Merlin took a bow, "I am Merlin and I need to speak with the soul that lies within you. I must speak with King Arthur."

[attr="class","nikki109"]"That boy was all you. I merely gave you the means by which to unlock it." the display of strength had been enough. The boy had said yes, and Merlin felt tension he didn't know he was feeling fade. His body relaxing and a heavy sigh of relief escaping from his lips. "Thank you my boy. You have done both Jayce, and the world a great service by accepting." Merlin cleared his throat after he finished speaking. An awkward question being tossed his way. Julius wanted to meet Jayce and that put the wizard in an uncomfortable position. A matter he hadn't spoken of to Julius quite yet. Was the fact that Jayce did not know Merlin was currently in control. He had assumed control of the boy's body by force. A moment of weakness in Jayce's mind had allowed Merlin to take over. Jayce soul was currently sleeping peaceful in a state of suspension.[break][break]
"I'm afraid that's going to be an issue Julius." Merlin looked away from Julius almost shamefully. He wasn't exactly proud of himself for his actions, but he had deemed them worthy. Extremes often needed to be taken when one was thinking of the greater good. That didn't mean Merlin had to like it. "Jayce is has no idea that the two of us are talking right now." he kept his gaze away from him, "In fact he has no idea that we're even on the outskirts of town. Right now he's...shall we say...asleep." he finally looked back towards the boy. "You'll have to forgive me but taking control like this was the only way. Jayce refuses to listen and I needed to make sure we were prepared for danger." as the wizard spoke he began to dig into his pocket. He pulled out Jayce's cellphone and held it out towards Julius.[break][break]

[attr="class","nikki109"]Oscar had covered for em and for that Jayce was grateful. He'd be sure to remember the dude's kindness, that way he could return it later. Maybe he'd buy him lunch or something? Although in order to do that he'd need to make sure that the guy got his number. So much to remember and he was so stoned too. He was quite sure how much of it would actually get committed to memory. Mostly because he'd probably just end up getting distracted by something before it crossed his mind again. Jayce couldn't help but think that sometimes being a stoner was too difficult.[break][break]
He had to blink several times as the woman started to freak out on him. She released her old on Oscar's wheelchair quickly. Her hands clutching onto the bag and pressing it tightly against her body. The way she was holding onto the thing it was like it held the secret to world peace or something. Wait...could she have really the key to world peace tucked away inside her bag? No, that was too silly of an idea too be true. It probably make for something interesting though. The woman's tone was filled with anger and she spat an insult Jayce's way that she had likely used a hundred times. "Low-life?" he was a low-life huh? What the hell was this girl's problem? First she'd rude to the guy in the wheelchair, then she's just plain rude, and now she was trying to be mean and hurtful.[break][break]
Jayce couldn't help but think that she had some kind of stick up her ass. He rolled his eyes at her and gave a wave of his hand. "I think it's a little more rude to go around calling people low-lives. I don't know what high horse you're on but why don't you climb off it princess." he retorted quickly. Typically Jayce was a very calm and mellow person. He could be fairly stubborn sure but he didn't exactly get worked up over much. But this woman was just really pushing his buttons, and not in a good way. "You keep acting like a bitch and you'll end up wethered and alone you know that right?" he had maybe taken it a bit far. But he really couldn't help himself, not only was she irritating but she was ruining his high. The second of which is something Jayce took very seriously. Thankfully they were about to walk into a crowd and he wouldn't have to deal with her for much longer.[break][break]

[attr="class","nikki109"]He could feel Julius's temptation to take the offer. Yet there was still heistation within the boy's eyes. Was the deal not good? Surely that wasn't the case. Not that Merlin was one to believe his own hype (he was) but surely he wasn't going to turn this chance down. The wizard was worried that perhaps he had been too hasty in his approach. Something that was still much a possibility, even after Julius had asked him why. Why Merlin had chosen him of all people to guide young Jayce down the path of his destiny. The answer to the question was a simple one. The answer had formed inside Merlin's mind the moment the question had left Julius's lips. "It's quite simply by dear Julius. As I've already told you...you remind me of myself." he knew that wasn't going to be enough to calm Julius's doubts. He would need to give the boy more.[break][break]
"Just by glancing upon you I can see a quality I have seen in few others. You have the ability to lead and inspire my dear boy." Merlin's voice was filled confidence. It oozed with the charm and charisma he was known for throughout his life. "I pick you not only because of this but because you can offer Jayce a point of view I am unable to give him." a truth if Merlin had ever told one. "Of a person who was not gifted with magic or power. A truly human perspective." the one thing Merlin could not give. He wasn't human after all, and he had never been without magic before. "Besides we both know it's only a matter time before danger finds its way towards him." Merlin's attempt to manipulate the Magi was subtle. Play on his heartstrings in order to get what he wanted.[break][break]
"Whether he is ready or not he'll be forced to embrace his nature sooner or later." how good of a job had he done at convincing the Magi? It had been quite some time since Merlin had needed to do anything like this. Much like his magic, the inspiring of others was something that he was quite rusty on. "You need not worry about failure or scaring Jayce away from his magic. Do you not think I was afraid when I needed to guide Arthur towards his throne? Do not let that heistation stop you from a once and a life opportunity young Julius. Let it motivate you rather, and prove to yourself that you are as capable a magus as I believe you to be." perhaps Julius needed to be shown proof he could handle this? Another idea formed inside of wizard's mind.[break][break]
Merlin cupped his hands together and held them outward. He then willed his aracne energy out into the space between them. The words of a spell long forgotten to the world were spoken with his mind. As he finished the non-verbal incantation an orb of brilliant blue light formed between his cupped hands. The wizard smiled proudly at the result and released his hands from around the orb. Despite no longer being held in the place the orb remained floating. Suspending in the air by its own magical power. "I want you to take hold of that orb Julius and pull it into yourself. Know that the magic will not harm you, but rather it will draw out latent power trapped within you." he pointed towards the battle-worn tree. "Once you have the orbs magic within yourself I want you to cast a spell on that tree. Perhaps then you will see the magus that is sleeping underneath all that doubt." teaching, it was the one thing Merlin was certain he was still capable of. A skill he'd likely never lose no matter how many times he came back to life.

[attr="class","nikki109"]He was interested, well at least interesting in hearing what he had to offer. "I'd like for you to take Jayce under your wing." he said bluntly. Now that he had said it allowed Merlin began to grasp how crazy the idea was. After all Julius would be a stranger to Jayce. What reason would the youth have to listen to him? None. But just by looking at Julius Merlin could tell that he was a resourceful man. That was at least the impression that Merlin got. "He will not listen to me but I have feeling, that with your help, we can..." he moved slightly closer to the boy, "give him the much needed push he needs." Merlin was well of how big of an ask this was. After all Julius did not know Merlin, or Jayce for that matter. He owed them nothing. Which is why something must be offered in return for his assistance in this matter.[break][break]
"I know that I'm asking you for a lot, of that much I am certain. But know that I do not do so without at least being able to offer you something in exchange." the wizard motion towards the tree behind him. "I'm well versed in the art of magic and its secret. I know tricks and spells the likes of which have not been seen in this world for centuries." he flashed a confidant grin towards the boy. "I will impart upon you my knowledge." an offer like that would be hard to refuse wouldn't it? A chance to be taught firsthand by Merlin himself. "Be aware that in my lifetime I have made this offer only twice." to Morgan Le Fay and the Lady of The Lake herself. Both of which had been smart enough to accept the offer. Merlin could only wonder if Julius would do the same. "More than a fair trade wouldn't you say?" the wizard outstretched his hand.[break][break]

[attr="class","nikki109"]She was cocky and confident and Jayce couldn't help but smile. "I hope you can backup all that bravado." he quipped back, letting his smile fade from his face. Jayce was quite sure of his skills when it came to fencing. He had been practicing for as long as he could remember. "I'll have you know I'm the captain of my school's fencing team." his voice dripped with pride. Jayce had started fencing in protest of Merlin. A way of saying that he refused to embrace his magic. But it slowly evolved into something he found pleasure in doing for himself. The irony of doing something out of spite turning into something he enjoyed wasn't lost on him.[break][break]
Jayce couldn't help but look at her with curiosity as she stared at his hand. Did she have a thing against shaking her opponents hands? Maybe that wasn't case. It would have been wrong of him to jump to conclusion like that. She could have just as easily been a germaphobe or something. A thought that was quickly put to rest as she reached out. She took his hand within her own and in doing so Jayce felt something within him stir a again. A spark of magical energy ran from his fingertips to down his spine in an instant. Everything he had been feeling towards the woman moments before came rushing back at him. Only this time it felt much strong.[break][break]
Whose name had she almost said? Why did feel like he actually knew what she was going to say? He didn't know. What he did know was that he wanted to let go of her hand. But for some reason he couldn't bring himself to do it. The moment stretched on and neither one seemed capable of pulling away from the other. It was Kerria who found the strength to pull away first. Her hand released itself from his own and he quickly pulled his way and towards his side. Staring down at it as the woman walked away to assume her position opposite him. [break][break]
"What was that?"
He waited for Merlin to answer him but instead began to feel another unfamiliar feeling. The feeling of a force trying to assume control over his body and mind. Was Merlin attempting to steal control of his body? Surely the wizard wouldn't resort to such methods. He had never done so before (as far as Jayce knew) so why was he trying to do so now? He glanced up from his hand and towards the girl that stood ready to fight before him. It must have been her. Something about her was causing Merlin to take a far more proactive approach. "I don't know what you're trying to do Merlin but I suggest you stop it." a command if Jayce had ever given one.[break][break]
"You don't understand boy. That girl...she is..."[break][break]
"Shut it." Jayce went to work drowning out Merlin's voice and focusing instead on the match that was about to take place. He placed his helmet atop his head and grabbed hold of his rapier tightly. He the held the sword outward and towards Kerria, his feet spread evenly apart as he held his left hand behind his back. "Oh I'm ready Kerria, do your worst." he finished speaking and then made his move. He stepped forward a few feet and his body bent forward. The tip of his rapier poised to strike against her left side. He prepared himself for what he thought would be an obvious deflection of his attack. But one could never truly be prepared when it came to the heat of battle.

[attr="class","nikki109"]He had seen some of the fiction regarding himself. During the times in which Jayce had gotten curious about who exactly he was. Rather than ask the boy had always resorted to other means of learning information. Anything to stand firm on his ignorance of responsibility. When Julius had asked how Jayce was the wizard gave pause. His head tilting to the side as he pondered the question. Merlin had never taken the time to consider Jayce's age. "I believe he is seventeen, but truth be told I am uncertain." he admitted plainly. "In our talks I have never taken the time inquire his age. I've been far more concern with him assuming the burden of responsibility." he tapped a finger at his chain in thought.[break][break]
Jayce was indeed young but so was Merlin at the time he was called to play his role. Arthur had been destined for greatness from the moment of his birth as well. Merlin had simply assumed that Jayce would embrace the burden. "Jayce does not talk with me enough for me to know why he makes the choices he does. I am simply left to observe and infer." he sighed heavily. "If I had to wager a guess, he's afraid of what embracing his gift would mean. That he is not normal. Merlin had no idea if he was right not. Which was a shame, because until they were truly able to connect with one another. They would never become one.[break][break]
It was as Merlin rummaged through his thoughts that an idea began to form inside of his head. He clearly wasn't going to be able to reach the boy on his own. But with help? Perhaps there was a chance that Jayce would begin to walk along the correct path. The wizard once again assumed his teacherly pose. His arms behind his back, hands crossed together, and a wise look within his eyes. "My dear Julius talking with you have given me wonderful insight." the wizard flashed the Magi a smile, "And a brilliant idea. Would you be willing to do be a favor? I promise what I offer will be of benefit to you as well." he eagerly awaited the boy's reply.

[attr="class","nikki109"]The boy let the word vessel escape from his lips and Merlin gave a nod of his head. "Good, you know exactly what I am. I must say that I'm impressed." knowledge of vessels wasn't exactly something that was commonplace. How much the boy knew was up for debate but just knowing the name was enough to earn a bit of respect in Merlin's book. The boy introduced himself as Julius and Merlin nodded his head once more. "Julius...a powerful name if I do say so myself." Merlin was of the mind that a name said a lot about a person. After all the strength and weight of one's name often carried far and wide. "Julius the Magi." he let the name and title role off his tongue slowly.[break][break]
Despite how neutral the boy's expression was Merlin could tell that he was slightly in disbelief. Something that was confirmed when he made mention of not knowing that Merlin was real. It caused the wizard to let out a small laugh as he shook his head. "I'm not surprised." he made sure his tone was relax so that Julius knew he wasn't offend by his statement. "From what I've read about myself in this day and age I'm something of a fictitious character." he folded his arm against his chest. "I'm surprised and elated to hear that you even know of me at all. I was quite certain that Arthur and I would be lost to history." it was reassuring to know that they had left an impact on the world.[break][break]
The magus had questions on magic and Merlin wasn't surprised, he had honestly seen it coming. After all when the world's most famous sorcerer was in front of you what else were you going to ask him. The elderly wizard grinned at the boy "You're quite the curious bloke aren't you?" he looked away from Julius and up towards the sky. His eyes closing in thought. "You remind me of myself in that aspect, especially when I was younger." he could still pictures those days within his mind. Of him learning to harness his gift, of all the questions he had asked, of all the answers he had received. It felt like it was just yesterday and not the long-forgotten past. He lowered his head and returned his attention to Julius. [break][break]
"But yes I've always been touched by magic." it had flowed through him for as long as he could remember. "I forget that magic isn't as common as it once was. Now, we must resort to contracts and promises in order to feel its influence." the forces of Chaos had left an impact on the world. Merlin turned away from the boy when he asked about approaching danger. His attention now falling upon the tree that had become his target for magic practice. "Danger is coming my dear Julius and I'm afraid I lack the strength to handle it." the disappointed in his voice was obvious.[break][break]
"You see, the person whom I share this vessel with is reluctant to embrace his gift. Unlike you and I, Jayce does not seek to understand the power that flows within him, but rather he runs from it." he glanced over his shoulder at the boy, "I've told him of the impending Chaos and the Youma and still he does nothing." he was opening up to the Magi. It was needed for Merlin. Venting his frustrations over the situation with someone other than himself and Jayce. 'It vexes me so because the boy has so much magical potential within his star seed. And I am only capable of tapping into a fraction of it."

[attr="class","nikki109"]He had been here for hours at this point. Ever since he had gotten out of school anyway. Fencing was one of the few things in his life that Jayce actually bothered to get excited for. He was even the captain of his school's fencing team. Strange when you considered that for the most part Jayce liked to avoid taking on any major responsibilities. Upsetting to his father and a certain wizard he was stuck with, but that didn't bother him much. Speaking of Merlin the wizard had been surprisingly quiet today. Jayce wanted to chalk it up to the wizard finally taking the hint, but he knew that wasn't the case. It was far more likely that Merlin was simply giving Jayce the time to himself. Letting him focus on enjoying himself in the hopes that he'd eventually come around. Jayce respected that on a some level. Almost enough for it to make some kind of difference.[break][break]
The young man gave a few deep breaths as he finished his last set of exercises. He placed his practice rapier down, and removed his fencing mask. His locks of silver draped across his face as they fell from his helmet. He quickly brushed them out of his face and went to wipe at his brow with a rag. Despite how long he had been here Jayce didn't feel all that exhausted. Quite the opposite really, and he knew exactly why. Being a 'vessel' (as Merlin had put it) gave him a few unique benefits. One of which was having more stamina than the average person. Which made it rather hard to find people to spar with. As most people wanted to quit after two or three matches.[break][break]
He sighed slightly as he squeezed the contents of his water bottle into his mouth. It was in the middle of this action that the woman approached him. "Hmm?" he glanced towards her as she spoke to him. The moment his eyes fell upon her Jayce began to feel something within him stirr. It was difficult to explain but it felt like he was meant to meet her. A faint trace and desire to protect and guide this total strange was slowly creeping into the pit of his stomach. It was odd and yet...oddly familiar. "Umm hi." he replied, setting his water bottle down on the bench next to him.[break][break]
She wanted to spar. Jayce couldn't help but feel how fortunate that was. He had, after all, just been thinking about how hard it was to find a sparring partner. "I'm actually not planning on leaving. Believe it or not but I'm not really all that tired." he relaxed his body and pushed the strange feeling aside. "So I'm definitely down to go a few rounds." he nodded at her before stretching out his hand. "The names Jayce." he waited patiently for her to take his hand. Introductions were important after all.
